The Ville.Science project aims to provide an overview of the use of digital data by municipalities in Quebec. In a context where digital technology is increasingly prevalent and essential in the functioning of public administration, it is necessary to document and understand how digital data is used, controlled, and managed.
An initial data collection reached 243 respondents from 176 municipalities and 16 administrative regions in Quebec. This initial overview highlights the differences in practices among municipalities based on their size, the importance given by respondents to data security and protection of sensitive information, as well as the need to establish support and frameworks for the collection, storage, use, and management of digital data in municipalities.
This project was carried out in collaboration with the International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology (OBVIA) and the Chief Scientist's Office of Quebec. This project draws inspiration from the national survey on the use of digital data by local public actors conducted in France by the Data Publica Observatory.
